Bench Starts Report
The Bench Starts Report aids coaches with oversight of the equitable sharing of starts on the bench.
These reports will assist in team selection and the provision of an even spread of bench starts across a season.
Three metrics form the basis of this report:
- Start Game Bench,
- Start Period Bench, and;
- Bench Spread Ratings.
- Start Game Bench
The value that appears in the 'Start Game Bench' column is a count of the number of times a player has commenced a match on the bench.
Users can choose to view this value as a percentage of the total number of matches attended, with the default simply being the count.
- Start Period Bench
The value that appears in this 'Start Period Bench' column is a count of the number of times a player has commenced a period on the bench.
Users can choose to view this value as a percentage of the total number of periods available, with the default simply being the count.
- Bench Spread Rating
Upon selecting ‘% PER’ in the toolbar at the top right hand side of the report, two values will appear (one for each column).
These values provide one single number that evaluates the spread of starting on the bench for each player, relative to their peers out of 100 (i.e. the more a coach shares starting on the bench for a game or period, the higher the score).
The rating for both 'Start Game Bench' and 'Start Period Bench' are calculated as per the graphic below.
The mean of all percentage values for the given column is used to then group players who are x percentage above or below the mean for the team, as depicted in the graph.
The resultant aggregation of each individual player score is then averaged and divided by 5, then multiplied by 100 to receive the bench start rating.
